Stuart Bonner to Run the 2026 Boston Marathon for Our Library!

HPLF is thrilled to announce that Stuart Bonner will run the 2026 Boston Marathon to support Hopkinton Public Library!

Why Stuart Is Running

A little under three years ago, Edward Jenner Wood V, the oldest son of some dear friends passed away tragically and unexpectedly. That same year, one of my former advisees and friends, from my time as a young English teacher at Virginia Episcopal School, passed away. In an effort to keep both of their memories alive, I got back into running.

Since then, I’ve logged over 1000 miles of running and many thousands of miles cycling to keep perspective that every day is a gift, that the ability to move my body is not guaranteed, and that we have amazing things to see and be grateful for every time we step out of our front door. The time spent exercising has also provided me the chance to reflect on their lives and show them respect through doing hard things and not giving up when I feel like stopping or taking an off day.

When Jenner’s dad threw out the Boston Marathon as a goal for 2026, it was a no brainer.  I am running the 130th Boston Marathon, my first ever marathon, on Patriot’s Day, Monday, April 20th, to not only honor the two aforementioned individuals and their families, but also to raise money for Hopkinton Public Library, which sits on the starting line of the Boston Marathon.

In 2025, Hopkinton Public Library Foundation funded the new "CreatorSpace" on the Library's lower level where teens and adults can use tools and technology for various projects. It has been a huge hit since its opening in October!  In 2026, HPLF will continue to fund the "Library of Things" and popular programming, such as Music and Movement for toddlers and a Gaming Series for teens and tweens, as well as numerous programs throughout the year to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. As the father of three young boys, I know firsthand how crucial a thriving library is to their development and exposure to all that life has to offer, so this campaign is especially meaningful to me.

I am honored to be a part of this rendition of the world’s greatest footrace, supporting an amazing foundation whose mission aligns with my personal values, and running to honor the zestful and enduring spirit of two people who were very close to me. Please consider supporting my campaign and thank you so very much for your generosity. Onwards and upwards!
